Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 6, 2026
This is CoTune’s Privacy Policy for our private beta. We keep it current as the product evolves.
CoTune (“CoTune,” “we,” “us”) helps groups evolve a piece of text together: AI generates options, and the group votes them toward a shared favorite. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email hello@cotune.ai.
Information we collect
Account information (hosts)
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address, and a password that is stored in hashed form by our authentication provider — we never see or store your raw password. If you set a display name for a project, we store that too.
Content you and your group create
To run a CoTune session we store the text you put into it: your project’s starting text, the question or criterion you’re tuning toward, the versions that you and participants submit, and the votes and comparisons people make. Participants who join a session provide a display name, which we store alongside their submissions and votes.
Participant recognition
So that returning participants keep their place in a session, we store a small token in your browser’s local storage and, for a limited period, the IP address associated with your participation. The IP address is used only to recognize you within a short window and to protect the service from abuse; we delete the stored IP after that window (currently about 24 hours after your last activity). See Data retention below.
Technical information
Like any website, our servers receive standard request information (such as your IP address and browser type) needed to deliver the service securely. We use only privacy-friendly, cookieless product analytics and error monitoring to keep the service running; we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Payment information
During the beta, purchasing is disabled and we do not collect any payment details. If paid features are introduced later, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor and we will not store full card numbers on our servers.
How we use your information
- To operate CoTune — run sessions, generate options, and keep score.
- To recognize returning participants and hosts.
- To send essential account email (such as sign-in confirmation and password reset).
- To secure the service and prevent abuse.
- To comply with legal obligations.
AI text generation
A core part of CoTune is generating text options with AI. To do this, the text relevant to your session — such as your project text, the criterion you’re tuning toward, and versions being compared — is sent to one or more third-party AI service providers that generate options on our behalf. We work only with providers that offer commercial terms, and we may change providers over time (see Service providers for the current one). Please avoid putting sensitive personal information into session text.
Service providers (sub-processors)
We use a small set of reputable third-party providers to run CoTune. They process data only as needed to provide their service to us, under their own terms. This list may change as the product evolves; email hello@cotune.ai for the current list.
- Cloud database & authentication — stores accounts and session data.
- Frontend & backend hosting — serves the application.
- Transactional email — delivers account email.
- AI text generation — generates options (currently Anthropic).
- Product analytics & error monitoring — measures usage and captures errors so we can fix them.
Cookies & local storage
We use cookies and browser local storage only for what the service needs to function — keeping you signed in and remembering a participant across visits. We do not use advertising cookies.
Data retention
We keep account and session content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. The IP address tied to participation is kept only for the limited window described above (currently about a day after your last activity) and then deleted. You can ask us to delete your data at any time (see below). We may retain limited records where required by law.
Your choices & rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing hello@cotune.ai. Account holders can also delete their account from account settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honor those rights — just reach out.
Children
CoTune is not directed to children. You must meet the minimum age in our Terms of Service to use it. We do not knowingly collect information from children; if you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
We operate from, and process data in, the United States and other countries where our providers operate. By using CoTune you understand your information may be processed in these locations.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as CoTune changes. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll provide a more prominent notice.
